Looking for a Place to Heal was one of the most difficult paintings for me to create. It was inspired by a difficult year in which I lost two of my closest friends. Through this experience, I was forced to reflect on how I navigate relationships and how I sometimes fail to nurture the connections in my life. The painting also reflects the visits and guidance I received from my ancestors during this time, and the offerings I made to them in gratitude for the lessons they helped me to learn. This painting is a reminder to be mindful of the relationships in our lives and to take care of ourselves and those around us."
